I'm getting ready for the next 2 weeks. They're "feature" weeks. Gett ready for "Beyond the Sidelines" and "Planet Earth" #

Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3 Somewhere between the cheese, were some great special effects and action sequences. Unfortunately the stank was overpowering. I found that there were too many plots, bad acting &, horrible lines. I guess I’m going to walk against the grain of many friends who enjoyed it.

Marie Antoinette

Marie AntoinetteA little slower, is the kind of style that Sofia Coppola generally goes for. This movie isn’t about the actual beheading of this famous historic figure, but looks at the life. The elegance of the set’s and vibrant colours, textures and contrasts, really shine. A beautiful movie

Safe Men

Saf MenAlong the lines of “The Big Lebowski”, this movie is full of WTF’s and one line absurdities. Very entertaining and funny.

Idiocracy

Idiocracy Movie PosterA great cast of comedians; a great concept. However, it’s not necessarily the best delivered. Idiocracy, is a movie of one liners and quick gags. When you first see it, you might think it’s dumb, but then you remember a gag or quote, and start to laugh.

Catch And Release

Catch And Release Movie PosterConsidering the topic, I felt that this movie was very “Hollywood”. It skimmed over the serious and heavy to try and make a happy ending. It’s o.k. but nothing special. It’s a middle of the road “chick flick”

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth Movie PosterYou can tell Al Gore has been honing his argument for the need for change. I was surprised that it wasn’t as emotional. The idea is to attack the logic, and not emotions. Although the heart strings weren’t the target, I was still deeply moved.

When the horse dies

Reading all these comments on Fox canceling the OC, for some reason I’m always reminded of some office humour

  1. Buying a stronger whip.
  2. Changing riders.
  3. Say things like, “This is the way we have always ridden this horse.”
  4. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
  5. Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
  6. Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
  7. Appointing a tiger team to revive the dead horse.
  8. Creating a training session to increase our riding ability.
  9. Comparing the state of dead horses in todays environment.
  10. Change the requirements declaring that “This horse is not dead.”
  11. Hire contractors to ride the dead horse.
  12. Harnessing several dead horses together for increased speed.
  13. Declaring that “No horse is too dead to beat.”
  14. Providing additional funding to increase the horse’s performance.
  15. Do a Cost Analysis study to see if contractors can ride it cheaper.
  16. Purchase a product to make dead horses run faster.
  17. Declare the horse is “better, faster and cheaper” dead.
  18. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.
  19. Revisit the performance requirements for horses.
  20. Say this horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.
  21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.

Nowhere does it say “get off”.

Is it always a surprise?

Sheer Force of Will: The Blog

My brother, has recently agreed to work as DOP for a friend who is madly working to put the pieces together and direct a cinematic musical.

Galen is a charismatic individual, which is key for directors, and has decided to share the process online with his blog, Sheer Force of Will. Unlike Zach Braff, who did the Garden State Blog, Galen intends to show from conception, where by the time Braff started, the soundtrack for his film was already on pre-sale with amazon.com.

It will be an interesting experiment to watch. I’m expecting to at least read one post that comprises of one may to words like “Tiered” or “Must sleep”. Maybe another will be simple and show the trepidation and doubt like “what have i done?” or “this is all crap”.

Good luck to him and my brother in their venture. Let’s hold tight, and read how it goes.

Nick Reviews

fil cameraLike my previous project, Nick is a poet, I’m starting a new sub-blog called Nick Reviews. This blog is designed soley for my opinions on Movies. I do watch a lot of them, and might have a few words to say about them.

It all came about with a writing exercise for my creative class. We were given the task to write a review. I enjoyed the process, plus I also enjoy giving an opinion without spoiling the movie. There is no need to give the plot away. There are so many other things you can review a movie besides the plot. Acting motivations, cinematography ( if anything cool ), and general feeling.

The whole idea is to improve and tweak my writing style, plus to learn more about the industry. I hope you pop by and take a look.
