Evolution 1079

We, the first years in radio, have now taken over the station. Last week I was the man in charge, and what I week it was. I’ve been working hard on launching the new site, and now I’m looking at adding more features. Take a look, evolution1079.com.

Horoscopes: Entertainment or advise?

Astrology is a mixed bag of entertainment and advise. There are those that make these statements that pretty much apply to almost anyone: “You will find something you thought was lost.” So, when you think you’ve lost your key’s and find them again, WOW!

So, why do I even read them?

Sometimes I just need a laugh and a moment of escape. It’s like reading the bus signs on the way to school — you know they won’t be any good, but at least it’s something to do.

Other times, I need something that let’s me know I’m not completely loosing it. But for these times, I don’t just flip open 24 or The Metro.

Introduce, Rob Brezsny. Not only are his horoscopes entertaining buy they’ve got a rare insight and perspective I don’t see anywhere else. Take this week for example:

Sagittarius

Here’s the first thing you need to know about the current state of your destiny: “Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.” That message comes to you from poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Here’s the second piece of wisdom you should take with you everywhere you go. It’s from Vladimir Nabokov: “For aren’t you and I gods? Let all of life be an unfettered howl. Release life’s rapture. Everything is blooming. Everything is flying. Everything is screaming. Laughter. Running.”

Is this right? Well, I’ll leave that for my own craziness. But, just to let you know, I think it is.

Take a look at his site, freewillastrology.com/horoscopes. If he doesn’t get it right, at least you’ll have a good moment of escape.

Lights out…

…but only for an hour.

Today is Earth Hour and for us Vancouver-ites we have about 3.5 hours (8:00pm PST) until we show our support. Vancouver is on the list of many cities that will be participating in the shut down for electricity conservation and making a stance for lower carbon emissions.

You may also notice that google’s homepage has gone black in support for the day as well.

I myself, will be helping the cause although, I can’t find any candles…I know I had them kicking around here somewhere.

note: I would be posting pretty images, although I have yet to figure that out. see previous post.

Remember the simple things

When I feel the pressure building up I get tunnel vision. I kick into gear and focus on one task at a time. But the longer I have that kind of focus, the more I loose the grand picture. “Why am I doing … ?”, “What’s the point in … ?” You get the idea.

poached eggsBut last week, while scrounging for pennies and food money, a friend reminded me that eggs and potatoes are cheap. Yes they are!

I brought home the groceries and then made some hash browns and poached eggs. I love hash browns and poached eggs!

The minute I sat down with my plate and cut into the eggs, the yellow yokes all runny tasty good. I smiled and for a moment the blinders lifted. The tunnel vision went away and I had a reprieve. I took a big breath. Who knew something so simple could be so powerful for stress relief?

So, do you need a good poached egg? Is there something you might be over looking? A simple pleasure, a simple act, a simple thing that you might be overlooking that could make all the difference?

Spring has Sprung

It’s that time of year when we have the spring solstice. A tradition I started a long time ago was to read the story of Jumping Mouse. It was told to me by an Ojibwa teacher who said it had all the lessons of spring. It’s a reminder that we can start again and some of the challenges and pit falls that can come along the way. If you get a moment, enjoy.

Do I Still Blog?

It’s a valid question, considering my last post was months ago. And although the evidence is looking like I don’t, I still do, and still will. I’ve been stuck over on facebook for sometime. But soon the addiction will die down.

Also, another excuse, I’m working on revamping this site. Yes, this will be another of many revamps. This one hopefully will work a bit better with me. It surrounds the concept of “create, think, and share”. And, albeit these are extremely broad categories, I think will be much more suited to the things I blog about, want to blog about.

Keeping Secrets

I wish I could shout out to the world what’s been going on. Over the past few months I’ve been giong through life altering moments and experiences. However, it’s not something that can be made internet worthy yet.

But I find it’s been having an interesting effect on me and my writting. Which in turn, if you notice the last posts date, my writting. Becuase these moments change lives, they also bleed into the words and sub-context of what I’m saying.

I’m trying to find a way to work through this little problem, without leaving a billion small blurbs on movie ratings. It would be an easy cop out to put a post, 3 starts, “greate movie”. But I want to have more substance.

Bear with me, this too will pass, and I will be a posting machine once again.

Goin Mobile

Just got my new Mac Laptop. This will be fun for a bit!

Took a bit of time to decide to go laptop. I worked on an emac for some time. So why the change?

Mobility. Mobility, Mobility.

I’ve been looking at everything I have and how they time me down. The mac ties me to a specific chair in a specific room. No ability for change, that is, without money for some re-decorating.

I’ve been mixing thing up, by using more web application that allow mobility: google calendar, google reader, gmail, Remember The Milk, del.icio.us. Each allows me the ability to check my email, or tasks anywhere.

So what about my very personal, novel? I don’t want it on google docs. I don’t want it on my webhost. I don’t want it anywhere but my own personal computer. Enter my new toy, the mac laptop.

It can go anywhere I go.

Energy Management

This week, I’ve been feeling drained. With some reflection and thought, I think I have an idea why. The amount of things I’m doing that drain energy from me don’t equal the amount of things that rejuvenate me.

Everyday I’m loosing energy. It’s bad accounting!

Rejuvenate >= Drain!

It has me thinking, what drains me and what gives me energy? I’m wondering how to balance the energy books. Is it a todo list like GTD? Is is something different?

My Double

I was shown a picture, of a guy playing the saxophone. And her looks like me. Can you tell the difference?

MeMark

Note: I’m the one on the left. The other guy isn’t me!!!

Mark, if you come across this, and are in Vancouver, let me know. We can’t shake hands because the universe will implode or something. But it would be cool to chat.
